A total of 700 participants will follow the XIII National Congress of Indonesian Association of Pharmacology (IKAFI) in the Auditorium of Faculty of Medicine UGM. The congress that will last for three days, 29 to 31 October 2010, in addition to hear management accountability report, will elect chairman and board of IKAFI period 2010-2013.
Prof. dr. Ngatidjan, M.Sc., Sp.F (K), chairman of the committee, explained that the Congress will discuss up to 160 scientific papers presented in 9 guest lectures, 12 symposia, 6 seminar sessions, and posters presentation. In addition to resource speakers from the Ministry of Health and Food and Drugs Agency, this event also will be attended by experts from abroad, among others, Prof. Hoffmann of Switzerland and Prof. Sie Hua Gan from Malaysia.
To improve the professionalism of participants in education, research, and community service, five workshops sessions will be held on October 28, 2010. "In addition, the participants can also attend non-scientific activities, among others, Ramayana Ballet at Prambanan and cultural tours around Yogyakarta," he said on UGM campus, Tuesday (26/10).
Under the theme Improving the Role of Pharmacology towards National Independence on the field of Medicine in the Genomic Era: From Bench to Bedside, according to Prof. Ngatidjan, this National Congress is expected to increase the knowledge and mastery of science and technology of the participants and society in general. As many as 13 scientific papers will be discussed during the Congress, among them about antibiotics, asthma medications, heart medications, cancer medications, pain and inflammation medications, diabetes medications, poisons and poisoning medications, immunomodulatory and pharmacogenomic. "In addition, pharmacoepidemiology, nerve medicine, herbal medicine and pharmacology education are discussed," he concluded.
