To entertain Internally Displaced Persons staying in camps, one thing to do is to entertain them through music. Hundreds of people in the Klangon Field, Muntilan, Magelang, Central Java, were indeed quite comforted by solo organ entertainment performed by musicians. Dozens of children and mothers and older people were happy when asked to sing popular pop songs and campursari(traditional folks song).
The musical entertainment, recognized by the field coordinator of the IDPs, Sumarno (46), can become a remedy for their boredom. It is undeniable that they have started to feel uncomfortable living huddled in tents since they were evacuated. "It’s been a week since they came here. Music entertainment is quite entertaining for them," he said.
Dodolelono (30), one of the singers who performed with the “Bagus” Music Group, admitted this week he went to several camps to entertain. Every day he has a show, but not in a cafe or a wedding reception, but in barracks. "We perform here for free, it’s actually our own initiative to entertain them," he said.
The men originated from Srumbung, Muntilan, admitted to be grown up in an area located near the Merapi, therefore, his spirit to entertain is quite strong. No wonder, this week he moved places to perform. "Particularly in Sawangan, we performed in the afternoon. For the areas around Muntilan and Magelang, we performed in the night," he said.
According to Dodo, the right time to perform is around 14.00 to 17.00 hours. Usually, at that time the people do not have other activities. "During those hours usually they are daydreaming, lamenting their life," he said.
In the Klangon field, Dodo was accompanied by two other singers, namely Menuk (36) and her daughter, Karen (11). The atmosphere was festive while Menuk asked Karen to sing a song. Suddenly, the children became cheerful and happy as they were entertained by a singer their own age.
