Bulaksumur (KU) – Early Disaster Response Unit (DERU) UGM continues to send aid to the IDPs since the eruption of Mount Merapi on Thursday (28/10). Every day, at least the DERU sends the aid 2-3 times to different locations in Sleman, Muntilan, and Boyolali.
Team Leader of UGM DERU, Slamet Widiyanto, S.Si., M.Sc., said, UGM DERU volunteers are assisted by at least 66 students. "We will continue to send aid as long as needed," said Slamet in the DERU office, Bulaksumur D-7, Wednesday (3/11).
Slamet mentioned that the aid came from partners, such as Baznas, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Faculty of Economics of University of Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, UGM Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Graduate Students Association of UGM, and communities from within and outside of Yogyakarta.
Assistance that is given is quite diverse, ranging from masks, toiletries, baby and adult clothing, blankets, food, mats, gloves, medicines, mineral water, toys, magazines, and books. At least there are 14 temporary and main shelters, which have given aid, including in Sleman district: evacuation post of Girikerto, Wonokerto, Purwobinangun, Wukirsari. In Magelang and Boyolali, the aid has been channeled to the evacuation post of Ketunggep, Jetis Pagersari, Musuk, Sawangan, Banyubiru, Klangon Field, Tirtasari Village, Srumbung, Gempol and Selo.
Trauma Healing
UGM DERU will also conduct trauma healing for children. "We’re trying to reduce the negative impact on children following the disaster,” he said.
DERU is a disaster response unit of Universitas Gadjah Mada consisting of several teams from Faculties, Centers of Study, student activity units, and other units in UGM which run humanitarian mission.
