Dedi Rosadi said that the idea to form this alumni organization was originally based on the need for a unifying forum for the alumni who currently work in various fields and spread all over the country, even abroad. It is expected that UGM Ikastat can provide more positive contribution that is more real, effective, and focused on the utilization of statistical sciences in the future. In addition, it also provides feedback and input on various use or even misuse of statistical sciences in Indonesia. "This is a manifestation of alumni’s determination to participate and help the intellectual life of the nation through the establishment of the Indonesian statistics-literate society," he explained.
According to Dedi, a pledge to form Statistics-literate society became relevant in the era of convergence of information that currently spreadng across the world, including Indonesia. Every day there are various kinds of information conveyed by the media, research institutions, or even government agencies which are either realized or not, related to the results of statistical analysis, such as quick count, rate of poverty/unemployment, inflation, disaster statistics, etc. "Inaccuracies in terms of presentation, interpretation, understanding, or use of analysis, have broad impact om people’s life. This is the importance of providing education and correct information to the public on how to address various statistical analyses," he explained.
