Bulaksumur (KU) – In order to improve Indonesia’s industrial competitiveness, Universitas Gadjah Mada seeks to contribute policy recommendations in the development and cooperation of industrial research. As the pinnacle of National Strategic Competitive Research (Rusnas) Fiscal Year 2010 event, UGM Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) will carry out the Second Indonesia Industry Research Forum 2010 (2nd IIRF 2010).
Chief organizer of 2nd IIRF 2010, Yusril Yusuf, S.Si., M.Si., M. Eng., D. Eng., conveyed that the IIRF 2010 aims to increase the extent of industrial participation in UGM industrial research cooperation in 2011. The event on December 1, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Jakarta will raise the theme of ‘Enhancing Industry Competitiveness through Research Cooperation of University-Industry in the Era of Free Trade Area (FTA)’. "This theme was selected to discuss the anticipated de-industrialization in Indonesia, namely the decrease of industrial growth in various sectors at the same time because of the fall down in the competition at the ASEAN and global levels," said Yusril in a release sent out on Friday (26/11).
In this activity, UGM cooperates with the Ministry of National Education in order to build awareness of the importance of industrial research cooperation in strengthening the competitiveness of national industries. This event is also supported by the Ministry of Industry, the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin).
The event will be commenced with a plenary session to discuss the national industry policy that is based on industrial research cooperation and continued with the presentation and policy of the Rusnas 2010 by Heads of Research and Development Agency of the Ministries of Agriculture, Energy, Communications and Informatics, Health, Transportation, and Defense, by involving relevant industry players and UGM Rusnas researchers.
According to Yusril, this annual forum will be more intense to discuss industry issues in the field of food security, new and renewable energy resources, information technology and communications, health and medicine, technology and transportation management, and defense and security technology. "It is expected that with this forum, mutual and beneficial cooperation will be established between university-industry-government in the era of free trade," he said.
