UGM Library successfully established a very prideful service. The statistics data record that the users of e-journal databases from Ebscohost at the UGM Library are the highest among 2800 universities in Indonesia.
Noor Ashikin Abbas, managing director for Corporate and Medical Databases Ebscohost of Singapore, said the e-journal usage rate at UGM equals with developed universities in other Asian regions. Therefore, this institution gave high appreciation to the UGM Library some time ago. "UGM library has been able to bring the information community toward the digital world age," said Noor Ashikin at UGM campus on Tuesday (18/1.)
Total e-journal searches in Indonesia amounted to 1,293,618 hit. In the meantime, e-journal users at UGM reached up to 1,138,507 hit in 2010. Its means that 88% of the Ebsco databases users in Indonesia were users from UGM. "This is higher than the previous year, where The Ebsco e-journal access from the UGM reached 84.8%," added Noor Ashikin Abbas.
Head of UGM Library, Drs. Ida Fajar Priyanto, M.A, admitted that in 2010 UGM Library was keen to conduct any sort of publication of e-journal databases and e-books utilization. This program also received support from UGM’s academic community. "The interest among academicians is indicated by the students S3 and S2. They actually asked for training of how to access the e-journal and e-books," he said.
He mentioned that UGM Library currently has subscribed to more than 24 databases of e-journal and e-books. Judging from their usage, it’s already quite high. Based on the Ebsco record, UGM Library users also started to utilize the facility in digital library using a mobile device."According to Ebscohost, 389 mobile hit were recorded in the past month. As the first library in Indonesia pioneering the world catalog network since last November, the world catalogs usage of Ebscohost Discovery Services from the UGM reached up to 3317 hit in December 2010," said Ida Fajar.
