YOGYAKARTA- Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) together with Regency of East Halmahera, North Maluku, agreed to cooperate marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding at UGM Leadership Conference Room. The signing was conducted by UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., and Regent of East Halmahera, H. Rudy Erawan, S.E., M.Sc.
According to the Regent, Rudy Erawan, the signing of the MoU was related to the review of division of Wasile District which is centered to East Halmahera Regency. It is expected that UGM multi-sciences team can give help in the study. "The area does have new opportunities to be developed and divided," said Rudy, Thursday (3/3).
Rudy said that up to now East Halmahera is well-known for its natural resource, namely nickel. Besides nickel, the district has been developed adopting agricultural systems. "With these strengths, the study of division is expected to be done and realized," he hoped.
Meanwhile, UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng, Ph.D., welcomed the cooperation agreement. Both parties, in principle, have a common vision for progress and prosperity of society. "We have a common vision for progress and prosperity of society. Hopefully, this cooperation could be developed along with new opportunities," said Sudjarwadi.
East Halmahera Regency is one district in North Maluku province. The capital district is located in Maba. With a total area of 5,615 km2, the district has a population of 38,681 inhabitants.
