UGM and PT Hutama Karya agreed to cooperate in the field of community empowerment. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., and Director of Hutama Karya, Ir. S. Subagyono, Tuesday (22/3), in the Leadership Conference Room of UGM Central Office.
The cooperation is carried out within the framework of partnership village development program in the village of Potorono, Banguntapan district, Bantul regency. In the development of the partnership village, UGM, in this case Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), plays a role in the designing process of master plan for regional development and the villagers’ potential. Meanwhile, Hutama karya provides assistance and guidance for the community in running the business and provides soft loan as one of partnership and company community development (CSR- corporate social responsibility) program. The cooperation will take place within a period of three years.
UGM Rector welcomed these initiatives. The existence of cooperation with Hutama Karya supported UGM in its duties to carry out the three responsibilities of Higher Education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi), which includes education, research, and community service. "Through this cooperation a new opportunity may be gained to make the nation better in the future," said the Rector.
He said that the efforts to develop Potorono Village is expected to become a success story that can inspire various communities. "The development is expected to inspire a lot of parties to implement it in various regions of Indonesia," he said.
Ir. S. Subagyono, said cooperation that is conducted with the UGM is one manifestation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. Subagyono hoped that future cooperations can be explored to support education at UGM.
Previously, his office held a series of activities, such as blood donors and scholarships provision in several places. "The development of the partnership village is a community service program and at the same time to celebrate the 50th birthday of Hutama," he said.
After the signing of cooperation, UGM and Hutama Karya pay a visit to the Potorono village to present the master plan by LPPM and to plant 1000 tree seedlings.
