Faculty of Geography and BNI Bank’s UGM Branch agreed to establish cooperation on the implementation of an environmentally friendly bank and campus. The signing of the memorandum of understanding was conducted by Dean of Faculty of Geography of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. Suratman W., M.Sc., and Regional Leader of BNI Bank Regional Office of Semarang, Bambang Kuncoro, Friday (25/3), in the Faculty. Prof.Dr. Suratman W., M.Sc., said the cooperation undertaken with BNI is in line with the mission of the Faculty to create an environmentally friendly campus. Faculty of Geography as an educational institution also carries out responsibility for preserving the environment. "Faculty of Geography not only wants to create an environmentally friendly campus, but also creates an environmentally friendly world," he said.
In an effort to save the earth, Suratman said that his Faculty established Swaliba program (Environment and Disaster Mitigation-Based School) and founded the Clinique of Environment and Disaster Mitigation which will be released on 22 April, to coincide with Earth Day. "The goal is that Indonesia can be more responsive and responsible in managing the environment and anticipating disasters," he explained.
Bambang Kuncoro, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to BNI to improve cooperation with UGM. "This cooperation is not the end goal. Hopefully, more cooperation in other fields can be established in the future," he said.
Bambang Kuncoro added that BNI has launched BNI Go Green by being Green Bank as positioning business as well as playing an active role in sustainable business entity. BNI Go Green is one of the BNI programs to participate in the effort to save the earth from global warming. "This program is implementation of one of the missions of BNI, namely concern and responsibility towards the social and natural environment," he explained.
On the occasion, an award handover was also conducted, Rejeki BNI Taplus, period of December 2010. One unit of Honda Freed was given to one customer of BNI who is a faculty member of Faculty of Geography, Dr. M. Baiquni, M.A.
