Servant leadership affects performance. The higher level of servant leadership will actually improve the performance of teams in an organization. The values of servant leadership is indicated by the behavior of love, giving authority to subordinates, attention to the organization’s vision, as well as to have the spirit of humility.
"The dimensions of this leadership, which are love, empowerment, vision, humility and trust are the form of leadership values. Values-based leaders will be able to improve performance," said Samiyanto in the open examination of his doctorate promotion at the UGM Faculty of Psychology on Thursday (23/6).
The lecturer of Education Institute of Plantation (LPP) Yogyakarta said his research found that the leader performance cannot be separated from the contribution of organizational performance (team performance). Therefore, the higher level of humanitarian concern toward members, authority delegation, concern for the organization’s vision, as well as the humble attitude of a leader will positively affect team performance. "The task and role of a leader are not only to achieve the physical and social-psychological goals of the organization, but also be responsible and establish themselves and their members to become a dignified, noble, and righteous man," he said.
Furthermore, leadership development together with spirituality improvement is also important. It will also provide new insights or spirituality paradigms with regard to leadership role and duty.
Thus, leader and leadership are seen not merely as a social symbol or title but rather as the role and responsibility in realizing the spiritual human being, man in the organization who has dignified, noble and righteous behavior.
"The level of leader spirituality significantly affects the level of psychological capital and the level of leader behavior. The higher level of leader’s spirituality level, the higher the level of confidence, future hope, potency to survive and optimism," he said.
After defending his dissertation, Samiyanto managed to graduate cum laude. His promoter is Prof. Djamaludin Ancok, Ph.D., and co-promoters Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A., and Subandi., M.A., Ph.D.
