Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), Thailand, agreed to establish cooperation in education, research, and community service. The signing of the cooperation was undertaken by Senior Vice Rector for Academic, Research, and Community Service, Prof. Dr. Retno Sunarminingsih, M.Sc., Apt., and Rector of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, Prof. Numyoot Songthanaipak. In addition, a memorandum of cooperation was signed by Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Tumiran, M. Eng., Ph.D., and Dean of Faculty of Engineering RMUTT, Sommai Pivsa-Art. Ph.D.
It was mentioned that this cooperation is about the undergraduate and graduate students exchange and education as well as exchanging information related to academic resources. In addition, the cooperation allows the two sides to conduct joint research and teaching practice. Various development cooperation programs are, among other, programs for engineering management and engineering systems.
The Vice Rector welcomed this cooperation because UGM has very comprehensive fields of study. In addition, UGM has 50 thousand students in S-1 and Diploma programs, UGM also has 18 Faculties which support the realization of interdisciplinary education. "This certainly supports the sustainable development, which has been summarized in the curriculum and the subject in several Faculties to realize green technology and others," she said in Conference Room I, Monday (19/9).
On this occasion, as one of the RCE Networking Centers in Asia Pacific and the owner of the community empowerment program, UGM offers RMUTT to jointly venture into the field to introduce a variety of simple technologies to solve community problems. Through KKN PPM program, UGM and RMUTT can empower communities to address the problem of poverty. Responding to the offer, Prof. Numyoot Soungthnaipak said that UGM and RMUTT do have many similarities. In RMUTT, the students are also encouraged to obtain the values of entrepreneurship, namely the values that focus on empowerment.
