YOGYAKARTA – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) inaugurated 1,333 graduates of graduate program consisting of 1,253 masters, 49 specialists, and 31 doctors. The shortest study period for S-2 (1 year and 4 months) was achieved by Yenny Erlina of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, while the specialist was achieved by Hasanah Mumpuni of Cardiovascular Diseases Sciences, Faculty of Medicine in 1 year 2 months. Meanwhile, in S-3 program Kazan Gunawan from Cultural and Media Studies, Graduate School finished his study in 2 years. The youngest graduate of S-2 program this period is Ricky Aditya from Mathematics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, who managed to become a master at the age of 22 years 2 months old.
The number of S-2 cum laude regular graduates at this graduation is 275 people or 21.95% of all S-2 graduates, whereas the S-3 cum laude graduates are 14 people or 45.16% of all S-3 graduates. The highest GPA for S-2 program, 4.00, was achieved by Ahmad Rafiq Mohammad Abu Arrah from Basic Medical and Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine. Further, the highest GPA in specialist program, 3.94, was gained by Shirley Indrajaya from Conservative Dentistry Science, Faculty of Dentistry. For S-3 program, the highest GPA, 4.00, was gained by Ratna Sulistiyanti from Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering.
In his speech, UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., said that UGM continues to improve various innovations in areas of learning, research, and community service to become a campus which is increasingly known in the world in devoting itself to the nation and humanity. This is realized with the establishment of various centers of studies and innovation centers of world-leading programs. "To become the center of excellence of the world, the role of alumni is very important. I hope that the graduates in the future are able to devote your abilities and potential in your respective workplaces," he said.
By becoming a world center of excellence, synergic cooperation between all alumni and academic community will be able to realize the vision of UGM to provide optimal service to the interests and prosperity of the nation. "I believe, UGM graduates in the future will hold the role which is highly expected by this nation and they can do it," he added.
To improve the quality of the nation’s advancement, the Rector also asked all alumni to become pioneers of progress by being leaders and decision makers. "There is no other way except to follow the main steps that have been made by developed countries. They see Indonesia as an opportunity. So, we should also see them as opportunity, not as a threat. We have to build network. UGM Alumni should be across all lines, to be leaders on all fronts," he said.
Marrisa Haque was Inaugurated
A popular artist as well as politician, Marissa Grace Haque, is one of 1,333 graduates of UGM who graduated in this period. The lady born 49 years ago in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Master of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business. In the graduation ceremony, the wife of Ahmad Zulfikar Fawzi was asked to recite the oath of Panca Prasetia Alumni. "I was so touched, thank you UGM," Marissa said to reporters who met her.
Marissa graduated after successfully defended her thesis entitled Analysis of Strategy of Sharia Microfinance Non-Bank Institutions: A study on BMT Beringharjo, Yogyakarta, with supervisors Prof. Basu Swastha Dharmanesta, M.B.A., Ph.D. and Dr. Fahmi Radhi, M.B.A.
