Universitas Gadjah Mada inaugurated 1211 graduates from post-graduateprogram, consisting of 1120 master, 60 specialist and 31 doctoral degree holders. The youngest S2 graduates this time is Ilma Sarimustaqiyma Rianse of Agricultural Economy study program that became a master at the age of 22 years and 6 months. Cum laude graduates amounted to 181 people or 16.16% of all graduates in the S-2 program and 7 in the S-3 program, or 22.58% of S3 graduates.
The highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for S2 has been achieved by Sumarno of Transportation Systems Engineering study program, which is one of eight people who graduated with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.00. While the highest GPA at the specialist level is achieved by Agnes Endra Purdiana of Prosthodontics study program, Faculty of Dentistry, who graduated with a GPA of 3.94. While the highest GPA for the S3 level is achieved by Indah Soesanti of Electrical Engineering study program, which is one of the three S3 graduates who graduated with a GPA of 4.00.
UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., in his speech said the graduates have a great role and responsibility to solve the nation’s various problems. Besides, the percentage of graduates is still very minimal. "Consequently, (graduates have) the more extensive opportunity to become a leader in their respective fields," said the Rector in his speech on Wednesday (25/1).
Furthermore, the Rector added the nation problem solving requires the mastery of knowledge in community empowerment. In implementing the service, the Rector called on alumni to have three main points. "We have to reflect on together that the elements of wisdom to face the future are a broad knowledge, a clear conscience and patience," he said.
According to the Rector, Indonesia today has many problems as well as opportunity to achieve greatness, so it requires bhakti dharma (service) of college graduates to cope with many problems. He said the alumni can work together to use science and technology to conduct quality improvement in many lines of work and job creation.
The Rector mentioned, several choices of work or job creation that could be worked on by the graduates include the fields of business, government, industry, spiritual, humanitarian, non-governmental organization, philanthropy institutions and many other fields. Meanwhile the science that can be used in synergy in the community includes legal science, humanities, science, health, technology, political, social, economic, environmental and other complements.
