Tuesday afternoon (3/9), the Kaliurang street looked different. Thousands of students were standing along the sidewalks. They were all carrying a poster that they showed to passers-by. The poster contained their choice of solutions to problems facing the country.
The freeze mob along the Kaliurang street Km 0-3 was followed by some 10,000 new students as a form of care of UGM students about such problems.
“The event is purposedly done on the sidewalks of the busy street so that the general public see the fact that UGM students also give contributions and solutions to state problems. It raises the public awareness of those problems,” said Iftor Ilyas Rizki, one member of the student committee alongside the event.
Iftor mentioned in the freeze mob, the thousands of students were divided into 6 clusters. Every individual carried a poster on the solutions to maintain state sovereignty based on themes according to their own cluster, for example, engineering cluster on renewable energy, socio-humanities cluster on law enforcement, science cluster on empowerment of Indonesian knowledge, agro cluster on local food self-supply, media cluster on Indonesia without smoke campaign and vocational cluster on increase of manpower quality and prosperity.
The students in the event also wore a traditional farmer hat in red and white.
