YOGYAKARTA – UGM Chemical Engineering earned accreditation from the London-based accreditation institute, Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), last December, making it the first Indonesian university to receive such accreditation.
Chair of Chemical Engineering department, Ir. Moh. Fahrurrozi, M.Sc., Ph. D., said they had to do evaluation process for three years improving curriculum, resources, and safety culture. The department is assessed as having curriculum with international standards that adopts outcome based education (OBE). With this accreditation, now this department is equal with other chemical engineering programmes from renown world universities and this will open opportunities for them to establish networking globally.
Secretary of the department, Wiratni Budhijanto, PhD., said the assessors praised the department due to their community service programme, comprehensive examination, and the hosting of National Safety Competition in their annual agenda.
