Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a literary writing workshop on Monday (Mar. 19). The workshop was held online and offline at the UGM Central Office.
The event was conducted to enhance publications by UGM members in support of improving university performance, particularly by utilizing faculty work that benefits the community through publications.
More than 750 participants attended the literary writing workshop, including faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff. The workshop featured two speakers: Benny Arnas, director of the Benny Institute and writer, and Ramadya Akmal, novelist and FIB UGM lecturer.
During the session, they discussed literary genres, how to explore story ideas, research strategies, material collection for writing, and structuring literary writing outlines.
Book Publishing Assistance
Dr. Ratih Fitria Putri, Head of the Subdirectorate of Scientific Publications and Intellectual Property, UGM Directorate of Research, mentioned during the event that UGM encourages all academic members to publish.
To support this, UGM provides book publishing assistance for faculty members to publish academic and non-academic books related to research outcomes, teaching, or expertise experiences.
“The Directorate of Research facilitates book publishing through the premium service scheme and the regular service scheme,” she explained.
The premium service scheme facilitates authors with the rank of professor. After being accepted by the publisher, manuscripts are published within approximately two months.
Meanwhile, the regular service scheme is intended for UGM faculty members with the ranks of assistant lecturer, lecturer, or senior lecturer (excluding professors). Manuscripts will be published within four months after the publisher accepts the final manuscript.
Dr. Putri explained that UGM provides incentives for published books by faculty members according to their expertise area, whether published nationally or internationally.
Additionally, incentives are given to faculty members who have had scholarly works published as book chapters at the international or national level.
Publication incentives are granted to faculty members who successfully publish books or book chapters with national or international publishers from August 2023 to November 2024.
