The Gadjah Mada Building and Bridge (GMBB) Community team triumphed with the top honor in the ADHI Icon 2024: Innovation For Construction competition.
This national-level innovation contest drew participants from diverse universities across Indonesia. It was organized by PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk from Feb. 19-21, 2024, in Jakarta.
Representing the GMBB team, the El Rose duo comprising Alfa Rosyad Eryanto (Civil Engineering 2020) and Elisa Nur Hanifah (Civil Engineering 2021) unveiled their groundbreaking innovation titled “Smart-EcoTex: Smart Mercerized Coir Geotextile with C. Nardus and Eco-Geopipe.”
Alfa Eryanto elucidated that their innovative concept stemmed from prevalent societal challenges, encompassing issues with land structures such as slopes and embankments and the looming threats of structural failures due to disaster risks.
“The genesis of the Smart EcoTex idea is grounded in Indonesia’s susceptibility to seismic activities, floods from embankment failures, escalating plastic waste concerns, and rising carbon emissions,” he explained.
He further detailed that Smart EcoTex integrates sensors into environmentally conscious coir geotextiles, offering real-time data on settlement, deformation, and displacement of land, slopes, or embankments.
This data proves invaluable during seismic events and soil shifts like liquefaction, facilitating prompt disaster response and evacuation protocols.
Smart EcoTex’s innovative approach ensures environmental sustainability and mitigates carbon footprints. Incorporating C. Nardus for erosion control on soil surfaces aids in reducing CO2 levels in the atmosphere.
“Our Eco GeoPipe implementation for slope drainage ingeniously repurposes plastic waste, curbing emissions from plastic production,” Eryanto added.
Eryanto aspires to use its groundbreaking innovation to emerge as a pivotal solution for fortifying Indonesia’s resilience against disasters. Their vision encompasses advocating for green construction practices and integrating disaster response sensors into construction norms nationwide.
