The UGM Faculty of Geography’s Center for Environmental Studies and Disaster Mitigation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, organized the 5th Technical Guidance on Transmigration Area Development.
The event took place in Yogyakarta and was held in two batches, June 5th to June 8th, 2023, and June 12th to June 15th, 2023. This year, it explored the Concept of Transpolitan in Transmigration Area Development.
A total of 50 participants attended both batches, with the majority being central government officials from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration and transmigration officials from across Indonesia.
The speakers for this technical guidance series were lecturers from various faculties at UGM, including the Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Economics and Business, and Faculty of Agricultural Technology.
The ministry’s Director General of Transmigration Area Development, Danton Ginting Munthe, opened the event with the company of the Secretary to the Director General of Transmigration Area Development, Dr. Sigit Mustofa Nurudin, and the Head of the Center for Environmental Studies and Disaster Mitigation, Professor Suratman.
In his address, the Director General expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the UGM speakers for their joint contribution to comprehensively understanding the concept of transpolitan. During the discussion, he emphasized that the key to building a transpolitan lies in first maximizing the quality of human resources, which Professor Suratman echoed.
According to Professor Suratman, a modern integrated transmigration area (transpolitan) is a region that has excellent, innovative, and creative transmigrant human resources in collectively managing natural resources. All efforts are made to realize innovative flagship products and establish the region’s branding with the support of Pentahelix collaboration.
Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, emphasized during the event’s closing that executive training for echelon 2 officials and the transpolitan transmigration program should continue, and academics must synergize with the government to continue existing programs.
