Sekar Kinanti, a 2021 Industrial Engineering undergraduate student at UGM, has emerged as the Unilever Future Leaders League (UFLL) 2024 champion in Indonesia. She also secured the 1st Group Winner title through collaboration with students from UI and Unpad, earning a ULIP (Intern) Golden Ticket.
With her success, Kinanti became one of the individual winners in this round. She represented Indonesia at the UFLL Final Global Round in London alongside winners from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Kinanti explains that the Unilever Future Leaders League (UFLL) is an annual business case competition organized by Unilever Global at two levels, national and international. This competition challenges young generations to explore creative solutions to solve issues related to one of Unilever’s famous ice cream brands, Wall’s.
“This year, UFLL Indonesia focuses on marketing strategies for Unilever’s well-known ice cream brand, Wall’s,” she said at UGM on Wednesday (Apr. 3).
Kinanti mentioned that the competition consists of three stages. The first stage involves video submissions to answer the first business case given.
From over 700 applicants, 30 semifinalists were selected to participate in the UFLL Camp in person on March 4-8, 2024. They were then grouped into ten teams of three members each. These ten teams competed for three finalist spots and then again for the team champion title.
“Not only that, aside from the team competition, from the thirty semifinalists, three best individual winners were also chosen to represent Indonesia in the UFLL Global Round in London in July 2024,” she explained.
Kinanti feels hugely grateful for this achievement. She admitted that she did not expect it, especially since the other 29 semifinalists had various outstanding achievements.
Many of them were even senior students with more experience. She confessed that she was initially pessimistic and felt inexperienced.
“At that time, I felt it was impossible to be selected and represent Indonesia,” she said.
Nevertheless, she believes that every individual has different potentials. Although she often doubts her potential, she stresses the importance of self-belief, as it always brings out the best in every opportunity.
