Are you interested in becoming a psychologist or a professional practitioner, decision-maker, public figure, or manager in psychology? If so, you can put the Faculty of Psychology, UGM, on your list of choices.
The undergraduate Psychology program at UGM is one of the most sought-after programs in this year’s academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP).
It has been accredited with an A by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) since 2010 and received international accreditation from the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) in 2022.
Through quality and character-based learning, the Faculty of Psychology has produced thousands of successful psychology experts at national and international levels in 59 years of its existence.
The Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Rahmat Hidayat, stated that his faculty always strives to provide students with the best education and curriculum.
In addition, national and international cooperation is often established for diverse learning provisions so that students’ learning processes are not only confined to the curriculum of the study program.
“The accumulated experiences and efforts from year to year bring our faculty to its current position. We want the existence of this faculty to benefit us all,” said Dean Hidayat on Tuesday (Apr. 16).
The Faculty of Psychology has four study programs: the Bachelor’s Program in Psychology, the Master’s Program in Psychology, the Professional Master’s Program in Psychology, and the Doctoral Program in Psychology.
The number of applicants for the undergraduate program increased by 13.3% from 2022. Meanwhile, there was a significant increase of 70.5% in applicants for the master’s program during the same period.
The Faculty of Psychology also offers an International Undergraduate Program (IUP) or an international-based class for the undergraduate program.
“This program also has high demand, with 334 applicants for 52 available slots in 2023,” Dean Hidayat said.
Psychology students are certainly familiar with international standard learning. Guest lecturers and practitioners are often invited to share beneficial information and knowledge materials.
Last year, the faculty invited Dr. Gautam K. Jha from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, to deliver material on the peace psychology course. Several guest lectures are not only held for students but also open to the public so that the wider community can also experience learning at the faculty.
A prominent scientist and UGM graduate, Dr. Irawan Satriotomo, specializing in neuropsychology, works at the University of Florida, USA.
Halilla Nathasya (19), a Psychology student at UGM, admitted to choosing to study Psychology because of the university’s prestigious reputation and the many seniors from various majors studying in the faculty.
“Many seniors from various majors managed to enter UGM’s Psychology, so I chose to study here,” reminisced Lila, as she is fondly called.
During her studies, Lila mentioned that elective courses in industrial and organizational psychology, educational psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, and developmental psychology were available.
“We are given the freedom to choose,” she said.
Lila added that the program fully supports student learning based on the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). The MBKM programs prioritized by the faculty are the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) and Independent Internships.
Additionally, the faculty frequently organizes a career center for post-graduation career sustainability. According to Lila, these programs greatly help students understand the future job prospects that can be pursued.
In line with Lila, Syadza Aliyah Putri (19), affectionately called Caca, expressed interest in industrial and organizational psychology. She even took several courses focusing on her dream profession, managing human resources in the industrial and organizational world.
“I also took some courses not only related to the industry but also others about consumer behavior and customer thinking, which will be useful for working in the research and development program,” Caca said.
