A team of students from the UGM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) has secured third place in the prestigious taxation competition, Deloitte Tax Challenge 2024, held on Feb. 16, 2024, at the Deloitte Indonesia office.
The competition saw participation from 40 teams from various universities across Indonesia, including UGM, ITB, UI, Binus, and others. The FEB UGM team consisted of Accounting students, namely Marcheline Natasya Santoso, Jasmine Iliyya, Evan Timothy Hotan Togatorop, and Patero Krinara Sitiael.
Marcheline Santoso mentioned that she and her team gained a lot of experience by participating in this competition, which sharpened their critical thinking and analytical skills, especially in the field of taxation.
“We feel grateful because the effort we put in was not in vain. We will try to find other competitions to enhance our analytical abilities in the future,” said Santoso on Thursday (Apr. 4) at the UGM campus.
In this taxation competition, the UGM team had to go through a series of rigorous selection processes. In the initial stage, the selection was based on the evaluation of videos submitted by each team containing priorities, promises, and public expectations regarding taxation in the 2024 presidential election.
Next, after being declared among the top 16 best teams and advancing to the semi-final round, they were challenged to solve three cases related to sugar tax implementation, transfer pricing, and taxation transactions for the permanent establishment, which they then had to present online.
“Then, the top six teams advanced to the final round where each team was required to answer two cases provided by Deloitte,” Santoso recalled.
Moving on to the final round, Santoso explained that each team was tasked with addressing a case related to issues and requirements regarding transfer pricing applications in a company.
In the second case, they were asked to assess whether the practices implemented by the company in that case were in line with BEPS Action 6.
