The Faculty of Biology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) recently introduced students to research topics overseen by its faculty members.
The initiative aims to inspire students in selecting their thesis and dissertation topics, facilitate direct interactions with potential advisors, and enhance their understanding of various research areas.
“We want to introduce research topics to students so they can choose final project topics related to the ongoing research conducted by our faculty members,” said the Dean of Biology, Professor Budi S. Daryono, during the Biology Open House and Introduction to Research Topics (Bioentri) 2024 held at the Faculty of Biology on Thursday (Apr. 25).
According to the dean, this introduction not only presents a variety of research topics relevant to scientific advancements but also directly contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education.
“Through this event, students can also understand how the research conducted by our faculty members positively impacts the attainment of various SDG targets,” he stated.
Additionally, the dean emphasized that students are encouraged to engage in research on biodiversity protection, ecosystem restoration, and community welfare improvement through innovations in biotechnology and natural resource management.
Bioentri took place Apr. 22 to 25 at the Faculty of Biology. The event featured presentations by thesis and dissertation advisors, with faculty members from various biology specializations serving as speakers in a talk show attended by undergraduate and graduate students.
This initiative aims to align student research interests with ongoing faculty projects, fostering a collaborative academic environment and contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development.
