A team of researchers affiliated with the Biofilm Research Collaboration Center (PKR Biofilm) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is actively pushing the boundaries in biofilm research.
As known, biofilm represents a cluster of microorganism cells, primarily bacteria, adhering to either a biological surface or an inert object while enveloped in a carbohydrate adhesive secreted by the bacteria.
This collaborative research effort engages various institutions, including Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur, and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
Professor Mustofa, a researcher from PKR Biofilm, highlighted the relentless pursuit of groundbreaking research on biofilm by the UGM team.
“Recently, we convened a focus group discussion at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman to shape actionable plans for program initiatives and bolster institutional capacities that will drive the forthcoming phase of PKR Biofilm research,” Professor Mustofa shared in a press release issued on Monday (Feb. 5).
According to him, the collaborative research endeavors among biofilm researchers are geared toward fostering scientifically driven academic endeavors and crafting blueprints for collaborative ventures on national and international fronts.
Such activities, Professor Mustofa emphasized, serve as platforms for knowledge exchange and updates about biofilm research, offering support in evaluating research outcomes, analyzing data, and comprehending the impact of research findings on biofilm understanding.
“In the future, we aim to expand our professional network within the biofilm domain, unlock further opportunities for collaboration, and facilitate knowledge dissemination,” he expressed.
Dr. Eman Sutrisna, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, underscored the significance of the regular discussion sessions conducted by PKR Biofilm in yielding tangible outcomes for institutions and propelling advancements in the biomedical health and global health services arena, particularly in addressing biofilm-related infections.
“Apart from fostering collaboration between higher education institutions and governmental bodies, PKR Biofilm is also urged to forge partnerships with industry counterparts,” Dr. Sutrisna added.
