In her speech, she mentioned that Indonesia is currently hosting the World Water Forum Summit in Bali from May 18 to 24, 2024.
This meeting, attended by several heads of state, hundreds of ministers, and delegation representatives, aims to revitalize real action and gather a collective commitment to achieve integrated, inclusive, and sustainable water resources.
The impact of the water crisis is projected to slow down economic growth by 6% until 2050.
On the other hand, the world is experiencing euphoria over technological modernization, including the development of artificial intelligence, which opens up new job opportunities but poses the risk of reducing human labor in several modern industries.
Meanwhile, Indonesia is currently facing a peak in the demographic bonus that will occur over the next one or two decades.
“This situation reflects the future challenges that graduates will face–how you will contribute as agile, creative, innovative, and adaptive subjects of future development in dealing with global changes,” she said.
Addressing the graduates, the rector expressed confidence that the knowledge, skills, and personal character they possess will equip them to tackle complex social issues in the future.
She emphasized that graduates must contribute to national development with the competencies and knowledge they have acquired.
“My message is to use the knowledge you have gained to engage with society through professional work, creating real innovations and works to achieve sustainable national development,” she explained.
Graduates are encouraged to continue being lifelong learners, strive to enhance their skills and capacities wherever they are, and uphold the reputation and love for their alma mater, where the extended family of Universitas Gadjah Mada resides.
“In this disruptive era, we must create opportunities. We should not wait for every chance to come. Use your knowledge as a foundation for wisdom in action and thought to improve human welfare and the sustainability of life,” she advised.
