UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro, along with several UGM leadership members, welcomed the visit of the Vice President of Chiba University, Japan, Professor Masahiro Takei, on Thursday (August 24).
During this meeting, representatives from both institutions discussed ongoing research projects and potential collaboration areas.
“There are many research areas that are intriguing to delve more into. I see topics related to SDGs, which are also of significant concern to us at UGM,” said Professor Udasmoro after listening to the presentation from Chiba University.
Chiba University is one of Japan’s national universities, established in 1949. Professor Takei explained that the university’s history began with a medical school, which then evolved into a university with ten faculties.
Professor Takei presented Chiba University’s profile and flagship research programs during the meeting. He also mentioned that several teaching staff and researchers at Chiba University are UGM alumni.
He hoped that this background would strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and open up various opportunities for follow-up collaborations.
“Collaboration can be done in many areas, such as medicine, engineering, business, and others,” Professor Takei said.
The opportunity for collaboration was also well received by UGM faculty leaders and researchers.
The Dean of the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Professor Kuwat Triyana, mentioned that the development of medical technology is one of the exciting areas to explore further.
Research in this field, he noted, could involve researchers from his faculty, the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, the Faculty of Engineering, and other faculties.
“Perhaps the area’s more towards medical devices, which aligns with what fellow researchers at UGM are currently pursuing,” Professor Triyana said.
He hoped that UGM’s collaboration with Chiba University would not be limited to research activities involving UGM faculty members and students but also extend to student activities such as student exchanges and summer schools.
“This is a good start, and we can expand to other activities in the future,” Professor Triyana added.
In addition to meeting with UGM leaders during his visit to Yogyakarta, Professor Masahiro Takei also delivered a public lecture on August 24-25, 2023, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, and the Vocational College of UGM.
