The UGM Security, Occupational Safety, Emergency, and Environmental Office (K5L UGM) held a joint parade on Friday (Apr. 26), National Disaster Preparedness Day.
The joint parade took place in the north courtyard of the UGM Central Office. It was attended by dozens of K5L members in full uniform and personnel from the Bulaksumur Police Station.
Various vehicles such as fire trucks, electric motorcycles, and ambulances simultaneously sounded their horns, sirens, and strobe lights at 10:00 AM as part of readiness for disaster preparedness.
Commander Arif Nurcahyo, affectionately known as Ndan Yoyok, stated that the joint parade was held on Apr. 26 to commemorate National Disaster Preparedness Day.
The joint parade and simulation sounded sirens to remind all community members to be alert to disasters.
“Through this joint parade, we want to convey the message that we are all responsible for safety and security in the event of a disaster,” he said.
Ndan Yoyok added that the UGM campus is located between Mount Merapi and the southern coast, so if an earthquake or volcanic eruption occurs, K5L UGM is responsible for increasing awareness and preparedness for disasters.
“In the event of a disaster, we must be ready,” he said.
According to Ndan Yoyok, the simultaneous siren symbol signifies that all disaster warning systems function correctly.
“It also indicates that we must not be complacent about disaster threats,” he explained.
Suryanto from the Bulaksumur Police Station welcomed the joint parade between K5L and the Bulaksumur Police. He stated that the Bulaksumur Police Station always coordinates with K5L regarding security and safety situations for residents in case of a disaster.
“If there is a disaster, we will act promptly,” he clarified.
