The Karate Student Activity Unit (UKM) of UGM has successfully collected 29 medals at the 2023 Gadjah Mada Open Karate Championship. The competition occurred from June 2nd to June 4th, 2023, at the UGM campus.
“We are very proud that the UGM karate team has won 29 medals in various categories,” said Afina Putri Kusumadewi, the Chairperson of UGM Karate, on Monday (12/6).
Kusumadewi explained that the 29 medals included 11 gold, 11 silver, and seven bronze. The gold medals were achieved in U21 kumite -84kg for men by Bagas Pujangkoro, individual senior kata for women by Aliffa Milanisty, senior -50kg for women by Maryuweni Susetyorini, veteran kumite for men by Sensei Yuskar Kahar, student/employee kumite -50kg for women by Anisah Lia Qur’ani, and individual cadet kata for men in the brown belt by Rifki Ulil Azmi.
Furthermore, gold medals were also obtained in categories such as individual student/employee kata for men in the yellow belt by Muhammad Khoirul Muntaha, individual student/employee kata for men in the blue belt by Nurul Hidayatus Sholihah, individual student/employee kata for men in the brown belt by Wahyudi Maulana, individual student/employee kata for men in the blue belt by Wahyu Triyono, and individual student/employee kata for women in the green belt by Adetyafani Nodia Shamanta.
For the 11 silver medals, the categories were U21 -67kg for men by Aufa Raja’ Sukmaaji, U21 +84kg for men by Ayra Azra Muhammad Sembiring, team senior kata for women by Kenya Azzahra Pramweswaru, Nur Kusumaning Ati, and Berlian Antya Fedora, senior -55kg for men by Mohammad Luthfi Dhiaz Prayudi, individual student/employee kata for men in the yellow belt by Ridzky Ramadhan, and student/employee kumite -55kg for men by Muhammad Arif Taufik.
Bronzes were also obtained in individual student/employee kata for women in the brown belt by Raja Muhammad Hayuri, student/employee kumite -55kg for women by Nurul Hidayatus Sholihah, student/employee kumite -67kg for men by Ilham Sutopo, individual student/employee kata for women in the brown belt by Salsabila Khoirun’nisa, and individual student/employee kata for men in the white belt by Fathan Rasyid Rahmadhan.
The seven bronze medals were achieved in categories such as U21 individual kata for women by Anisah Lia Qur’ani, U21 -75kg for men by Daniel Elifele Avrilino Christanto, U21 -61kg for women by Donita Amilia, U21 -68kg for women by Daru Nakhiila Putri, U21 +68kg for women by Inggid Aida Cahyani, senior -68kg for women by Shabrina Farras Tsany, and senior +68kg for women by Shinta Puspa Megawati.
Kusumadewi said that the achievements resulted from the dedication of the UGM karate athletes in their training. The support from coaches and the university in facilitating the training was also acknowledged.
“We hope that in the future, UGM Karate athletes will continue to succeed in various competitions,” she added.
The 2023 Gadjah Mada Open Karate Championship was attended by 1,400 participants competing in various categories. The matches were divided into 95 classes in the open and festival categories.
