Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Chungnam National University (CNU) Korea will initiate an Open Campus Program.
This program will host collaborative academic and research activities under the framework of the CNU 1 + 3 master and PhD integrated degree program.
The initiation of this collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, representing the rector, and the President of Chungnam National University.
“It is an honor. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to visit UGM, a prestigious university in Indonesia with more than 74 years of experience. This meeting may be short, but we hope it can strengthen the good partnership between the two universities,” said Professor Jin-Sook Lee, President of Chungnam National University.
Both universities will conduct joint lectures, establish and operate joint research units or laboratories, offer academic courses related to the Korean language and culture, and organize student exchange programs.
For the 1+3 program, CNU will select students recommended by UGM, following the criteria and admission requirements. UGM will carry out the first year of the 1+3 program, while CNU will conduct the remaining three years.
Research programs can be attended by faculty members selected by UGM and CNU based on their expertise and scholarly interests. They will establish a joint research unit or laboratory at UGM or CNU.
Meanwhile, the exchange program can be attended by regular students enrolled in undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral programs at their home institution for a full academic year or one semester.
“At least two faculties will follow up on this collaboration: the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, which has a long tradition of collaboration with institutions in Korea, and the Faculty of Animal Science,” said the UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro.
The vice-rector stated that this collaboration aligns with the Indonesian government’s current initiative, offering many scholarships for double-degree programs and student exchanges.
She hopes that this collaboration can be implemented well and bring many benefits to both institutions and students.
“Thank you for the ongoing collaboration. Hopefully, many things can be implemented from this MoA,” she said.
