Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) participated in the 1st Indonesian Education Expo in Qatar, organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Doha on May 11-12, 2024, at the Rotana Hotel, City Center, Doha, Qatar.
Alongside UGM, other Indonesian public and private universities, including Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Institut Pertanian Bogor, and Universitas Bina Nusantara, also took part in this inaugural education exhibition in Qatar.
Dr. Rosa Amalia, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the UGM Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM), stated in a press release sent to journalists on Thursday (May 30) that UGM sent a delegation of 9 representatives from three faculties and one directorate to participate in the education exhibition.
The participating units included FKG UGM, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM), the Faculty of Psychology (Psychology UGM), and the Directorate of Partnerships and Global Relations.
In this exhibition, Dr. Amalia mentioned that the UGM delegation aimed to promote their respective departments’ International Undergraduate Program (IUP).
“For FKG UGM in particular, this fair is a promotional event for our IUP, which will begin accepting students in 2025,” she explained.
Dr. Amalia highlighted that the UGM booth received significant interest from prospective students and their parents, especially those from the Indonesian diaspora.
Besides participating in the expo, the UGM delegation visited Al-Khor, a city in Doha with a substantial Indonesian population.
The UGM and ITS delegations held a presentation and discussion session with the Indonesian diaspora in Al-Khor. The UGM delegation also met with the UGM Alumni Family (Kagama) in Qatar.
“About 30 members of Kagama Qatar attended and had dinner with the UGM delegation,” she added.
For context, according to records from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Qatar, around 2,063 children of the Indonesian diaspora in Qatar are currently pursuing education from kindergarten to high school.
These students become targets for higher education institutions from various countries each year. The Indonesian Embassy in Doha has been promoting Indonesian higher education to children of the Indonesian diaspora and other international students in Qatar.
