Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is gearing up to defend its overall champion title in the 37th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) slated for this year.
Beyond being a platform for student competition, PIMNAS aims to spur diverse innovations and the commercialization of research from the UGM community, resulting in products that benefit society.
“PIMNAS isn’t merely about showcasing excellence; it’s much more than that. We envision PIMNAS as a gateway to research commercialization,” expressed the Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia, during a gathering with accompanying lecturers and coaches for the UGM PIMNAS team on Friday (Feb. 2).
She underscored UGM’s focus on promoting innovation commercialization in food security and healthcare autonomy, hoping these products would serve as a source of pride and contribute meaningfully to society.
“It’s a journey that begins with small steps,” she emphasized.
The rector took a moment to commend the involvement of accompanying lecturers and coaches in past PIMNAS events.
In the 36th PIMNAS held at Padjadjaran University on Nov. 27-30, UGM clinched the overall champion title by dominating the medal tally with 29 medals, including 11 gold, nine silver, and nine bronze.
“Your dedication brought our aspirations to life. Despite the setbacks of the previous year, it ignited an enthusiasm to reclaim the championship. Your contributions were invaluable,” she acknowledged.
UGM has appointed five coordinators for the Student Creativity Program (PKM) to uphold this legacy, with four assigned to each cluster and one as the general coordinator. Additionally, a PKM Task Force team comprising 14 members has been established.
“Through this platform, we can transparently assess our strengths and areas for improvement. The university is fully committed to supporting our progress. We’ll refine our theme selection process and maintain open communication,” affirmed UGM Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni Dr. Arie Sujito.
