Professor Bimo Walgito of the UGM Faculty of Psychology passed away on Monday (Apr. 22) at 22:42 WIB at his residence in Bulaksumur, Yogyakarta, due to age-related factors.
He was laid to rest in the UGM family cemetery in Sawitsari, Sleman, on Tuesday (Apr. 23) at 15:00, following a memorial service at the courtyard of Balairung, UGM Central Building.
“The entire UGM family is in mourning because our colleague, teacher, and one of the best sons of Universitas Gadjah Mada and Indonesia has been called by God Almighty, and today we are here together to pay our respects to the late Professor Bimo Walgito,” said the Chair of the UGM Board of Professors, Professor Moch. Maksum.
According to Professor Maksum, Professor Bimo Walgito was a diligent scholar in humanistic psychology. The chair quoted part of Professor Walgito’s inaugural speech as a professor on Dec. 12, 1993, titled “The Role of Parents in Building Self-Confidence: A Humanistic Psychological Approach.”
In his speech, the late professor emphasized the importance of awareness, self-actualization, individual uniqueness, and positive aspects of human nature.
Humanistic psychology is a psychological approach that emphasizes free will, personal growth, joy, resilience after experiencing unhappiness, and achieving human potential. Additionally, the late professor was known for his dedication to his field.
“This is evident from the extensive list of publications and scholarly works he produced,” Professor Maksum said.
Professor Maksum encouraged the mourners to pray for the deceased and emulate his lifelong dedication to his expertise and service to the community through the Community Service Program (KKN).
“We also pray that Universitas Gadjah Mada will continue to produce brilliant scientists like him,” Professor Maksum concluded.
