The Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has triumphantly orchestrated the Academic Innovation Day 2023 under the captivating theme “Academic Innovation and Technology.”
This affair unfolded over two months, from Sep. 25 to Nov. 25, 2023, graced with riveting competitions and enlightening workshops meticulously designed to champion accomplishments, collaboration, and the application of cutting-edge technology within the academic realm.
The theme “Academic Innovation and Technology” was an astute choice, resonating with the escalating significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in contemporary society.
Given AI’s revolutionary, transformative potential and the complex challenges it brings forth, this theme underscores the pivotal role technology plays in shaping the future of academia.
More than just a celebration of accomplishments, Academic Innovation Day serves as a dynamic platform, kindling the flames of creativity, collaboration, and technological application among participants, especially lecturers and students.
The overarching objective is to strike a harmonious balance between technological innovation and positive societal impact, offering invaluable insights to uplift academic standards across the board, from universities to individual study programs.
Essentially, all stakeholders within the university ecosystem can leverage emerging innovations as a bedrock for formulating progressive academic policies.
Academic Innovation Day 2023 was full of intellectually stimulating workshops on artificial intelligence.
The “Artificial Intelligence 101” workshop on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, delved into the theme “AI & Optimization in Learning Methods.” Distinguished speakers Virga Dwi Effendi and Faiz Rahman shared their expertise, sparking illuminating discussions.
Subsequently, the workshop titled “Optimizing Artificial Intelligence in the Academic and Teaching Fields,” led by Wahyudi Djafar, Executive Director of ELSAM, explored the critical importance of integrating technology and artificial intelligence within academic contexts, with a keen eye on ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks.
Complementing the workshops was a spirited competition spanning two categories: lecturers and students. This contest kicked off with the submission of videos on YouTube during the preliminary round.
The five most outstanding videos from each category advanced to the final round, where participants crafted policy briefs and presented their innovative pitches on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023—the pinnacle of Academic Innovation Day 2023.
The Final and Awarding Day commenced with an inspiring address from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Dahliana Hasan, declaring, “Our commitment here is to deliver the best service to students, lecturers, and staff. Everyone will experience the academic innovation emerging from the Faculty of Law.”
Following the opening, finalists took center stage to present their pitches before the esteemed panel of judges, comprising Aditya Henri Narendra, Amanda Valany, and Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar.
The laurels of Academic Innovation Day 2023 were bestowed upon obstetrician-gynaecologist Ide Pustaka, MD, in the lecturer category, and Latif Aditama Habibi in the student category.
During the pitch, Ide Pustaka introduced the groundbreaking concept of “GAMA VROG” – Gadjah Mada Virtual Reality in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
GAMA VROG utilizes VR to address postpartum hemorrhage cases. With VR glasses, users immerse themselves in 3D images and animations, gaining an experiential understanding akin to real-world scenarios.
This innovation empowers users to hone decision-making skills and motor functions essential for managing postpartum hemorrhage. The overarching goal is to enhance healthcare professionals’ competency and contribute to reducing maternal mortality rates in Indonesia.
Academic Innovation Day 2023 is a tangible testament to the transformative potential of technology and innovation in elevating academic quality while ensuring positive societal impacts.
