The Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory of Universitas Gadjah Mada (LPPT), in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Sleman Regency, orchestrated a blood donation campaign on Friday (Jan. 26) at the LPPT building.
Over 280 lecturers, non-teaching staff, and students of UGM who had pre-registered through the dedicated page participated in the event.
Concurrently with the blood donation initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between LPPT UGM and PMI Sleman Regency.
The signing ceremony was presided over by the Head of LPPT, Professor Yusril Yusuf, and the Chair of PMI Sleman Regency, Dr. Sunartono.
“We value this partnership. It’s not solely about blood donation; there’s potential for collaboration in research endeavors in the future,” Professor Yusuf explained.
Professor Yusuf envisioned regular blood donation campaigns at UGM every few months, given the university’s frequent organization of large-scale events such as new student enrollments and anniversary celebrations, which attract many university members.
He hoped the collaboration between the two institutions would yield manifold benefits.
“This marks the inception of further activities. We anticipate frequent communication for future collaborations,” Professor Yusuf conveyed to the PMI Sleman Chair.
Dr. Sunartono warmly embraced the partnership with LPPT, emphasizing that initiatives like this are crucial in boosting community engagement in blood donation drives.
“We commend UGM, through LPPT, for their attentiveness to community needs. The WHO target for voluntary blood donation is two percent of the population. Yet, we currently stand at one percent,” he remarked.
In alignment with Professor Yusuf’s sentiments, Dr. Sunartono also looked forward to expanding the scope of cooperation between LPPT and PMI Sleman into various activities. This aligns with PMI’s dedication to community service, research, and development.
“We are poised to serve as UGM’s practical laboratory. We stand ready to facilitate and implement initiatives to the best of our abilities,” Dr. Sunartono affirmed.
