Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has opened registration for outstanding students through the Talent Search for Outstanding Students (PBU) program.
This pathway is divided into three categories: PBU for Students from Low-Income Families (PBUTM), PBU for Outstanding Students (PBUB), and PBU for Affirmative Action and 3T Areas organizing UGM’s tri-dharma activities. Online registration has been open since May 21 and will continue until June 12.
The PBUTM pathway is intended for outstanding students with economic constraints but high academic capabilities. The Secretary of the UGM Directorate of Education and Teaching, Dr. Sigit Priyanta, stated that UGM provides a special pathway for students with economic challenges.
“Students from economically disadvantaged families can apply through this pathway,” Dr. Priyanta said on Monday (Jun 3).
In the PBUTM pathway, prospective students are required to complete necessary documents, including being holders or registrants of the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) College listed in the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, with a combined gross income of parents/guardians not exceeding Rp4 million per month, combined gross income of parents/guardians divided by the number of family members not exceeding Rp750 thousand per month, and the maximum education level of parents/guardians being undergraduate.
For the Affirmative Action and 3T Areas pathway, Dr. Priyanta explained that this selection route is intended for outstanding prospective students from affirmation areas and the frontier, outermost, underdeveloped (3T) regions serving as the locations of UGM’s tri-dharma activities.
“Students eligible to apply through this pathway come from regions that have been locations of education, research, and community service activities by UGM academicians,” he said.
To complete the registration documents, participants must obtain recommendation documents from the UGM Alumni Family (Kagama), local government authorities, provincial and regency/city, and the respective Head of the Education Office.
“Regions included in the affirmation and 3T categories must also be determined according to the Rector’s Decree,” Dr. Priyanta explained.
Dr. Hempri Suyatna, Secretary of the UGM Directorate of Student Affairs, explained that the PBUB pathway is intended for students who have won or placed in sports, arts, science, and technology competitions.
He added that recognized competition levels include provincial, national, or international championships or competitions organized by UGM.
“Proven with certificates or championship plaques,” the secretary said.
Dr. Suyatna added that students wishing to apply through the PBU pathway should be in their final year of high school or Package C, set to graduate in the current year or the previous year, be no older than 25 years by July 1 of the current year, be recommended by their school, rank among the top 25% of their class in science and technology, 50% in sports and arts, or be at least in the top 5 in international sports competitions, and have a 12th-grade certificate or graduation certificate.
Prospective applicants in the PBU pathway can choose up to two of the 93 study programs available at UGM, undergraduate and applied bachelor’s degree programs.
“All clusters, including social sciences, agriculture, medical, and science and technology, can be chosen by applicants,” he said.
For information, create a registration account and fill out the online registration form for the PBU pathway at https://um.ugm.ac.id/pendaftaran. The site has been open since May 21 and will close on June 12.
After completing all the required procedures, applicants who pass the administrative selection will undergo a skills test on July 3 and 4, 2024. The selection results will be announced on July 9, 2024.
