Over three decades, halal food markets have dramatically increased, especially in the major Muslim countries. It is estimated that the number of Muslims in the world is more than 1.8 billion people, and the trade in halal industry is around US $ 1.2 – 2.0 trillion dollars. The halalness and safety of food and pharmaceutical products can be viewed from two perspectives, namely religion and economical aspects. From religion point of view, it is an obligatory for every muslim to consume Halal and wholesome (toyyib) products as described in The Quran (Al Baqoroh: 186). From the economical point of view, halal products can be taken into account as good business opportunity for everyone globally. With the demand of halal products increasing globally, the halal sciences are emerging issues in the worldwide. Research Center of Halal Products, Gadjah Mada University in collaboration with Faculty of Pharmacy, Gadjah Mada University will hold the 2nd international seminar on halal sciencies. Some scientist and practitioners in halal area will be invited to share their knowledge and experience in this seminar.
