UGM closes in-house test of new student admission. The new student admission will now be held following the pattern of State Universities’ National Entrance Exams (SNMPTN). This makes UGM have two types of selection: SNMPTN written test and SNMPT invitation.
That was emphasized by UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D., related to new student admission issue on Tuesday (18/1). He said that the success of UGM Entrance Exam (UM) in the previous years was a starting point of pattern change of UGM student admission this year. UGM in-house written test (Utul UGM) has proven very good results.
One of indicators of the success is reflected in the student’s GPA. “Research proved that the average GPA of students through the written test is higher than of the students through SNMPTN,” said the Rector at UGM Leadership Conference Room.
Sudjarwadi explained that the students can gain high GPA because they passed good selection process. In the process, the tests given are very qualified. Therefore, in the new student admission year 2011, UGM agreed to integrate its developed tests with the SNMPTN written test. “UGM wants to seek the best way to help the community learn at universities,” the Rector said.
By integrating the tests, the Rector is certain that SNMPTN 2011 will be better and able to select the best students. “UGM in-house written test is eliminated because it is already integrated with the SNMPTN,” he said.
The change, according to Sudjarwadi, refers to Minister of Education Regulation No 34/2010. The making of SNMPTN’s test this year involves teams from various state universities, mostly from UGM, ITB and UI. “Due to the success in making the in-house test, the involvement of three state universities, UGM, UI, and ITB, is very great. To design test questions of SNMPTN, each university (UGM, UI and ITB) will send even more than 15 people,” he said, emphasizing that UGM does not feel disadvantaged because of the change.
UGM Director of Academic Administration , Dr. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, D.E.A., D.E.S.S., added that UGM student admission is 100% from SNMPTN, consisting of written test and invitation. Therefore, student candidates who want to enter UGM should register through these two ways. “For those who have already registered for in-house written test and Self-financing Selection (PBS), don’t worry because all will be integrated in the written test and SNMPTN invitation,” said Budi Prasetyo.
Budi said that SNMPTN invitation is actually superior student selection. This selection consists of PBUTM (Disadvantaged and Excellent Student Search), PBUBB (Outstanding Student Search for Scholarship), PBOS (Excellent Student in Sports and Arts Search) and PBUPD (Regional Excellent Student Search). “Self-financing Selection (PBS) is included in this selection. Requirements and procedure is the same as in the excellent talent search, so despite their achievement, they have to be among the 25% best students in class,” Budi said.
As many as 7,888 people have been registered in UGM entrance selection through PBS and written test. Meanwhile, as many as 1,680 people have proposed registration through Excellent Student Search. “The day of 27 March 2011 which should see the test will be spent for verification instead. So, those who have already registered for PBS and written test will be included in the SNMPTN written test and invitation,” he added.
SNMPTN written test will be conducted from 1-2 June 2011, the result will be announced by end of June 2011. SNMPTN invitation will start from February 2011.
