The Applied Undergraduate Program in General Surveying and Mapping Technology is an “Excellent” (Unggul) accredited program dedicated to producing professional surveyors who are experts in modern mapping. Graduates earn the academic degree Bachelor of Applied Engineering (S.Tr.T.).

Aligned with Level 6 of the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), the program develops Engineering and Applied Surveyors proficient in analyzing complex problems and using cutting-edge digital tools, including High-Precision GNSS, LiDAR, and GIS-BIM integration.

The Grand Design of the Curriculum is systematically structured across four pillars—Basic Sciences, Engineering, General Education, and Professional Components—to cultivate high-level technical analysts. Students’ competencies are reinforced through strategic Capstone Design projects and a two-semester industrial internship, ensuring rigorous validation of skills in real-world environments.

Graduates play a crucial role as technical managers, designing survey workflows, conducting geospatial data investigations, and maintaining professional accountability for strategic infrastructure projects. This ensures comprehensive readiness for careers within government agencies and the global industrial sector.

Key Strengths

The Applied Undergraduate Program in General Surveying and Mapping Technology excels as a premier provider of competent human resources in Geospatial Information (GI) management, driven by three cutting-edge technological pillars, namely:

  1. Terrestrial Surveying: Focusing on high precision for the construction industry, strategic infrastructure, and deformation monitoring by integrating manual methods with digital automation.
  2. Photogrammetry: Expertise in UAV-based aerial data acquisition and metric sensors to accelerate national large-scale mapping through Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and orthophotography processing.
  3. Hydrographic Surveying: Specialized competency in aquatic mapping using echo sounder technology to support the blue economy, navigation, and marine resource management.

The integration of these three pillars equips graduates with multi-environment acquisition capabilities and the ability to manage accurate geospatial databases. This makes our graduates highly relevant experts for government agencies (such as BIG and BPN), the mining and energy industries, and the global private sector.

Career Prospects

Graduates of the Applied Undergraduate Program in General Surveying and Mapping Technology possess broad and strategic career opportunities across multiple sectors. With specialized expertise in multi-environment data acquisition (land, sea, and air) and spatial analysis, graduates are prepared to hold key positions in:

1. Government Agencies & National Institutions

As certified geospatial experts, graduates can pursue careers in institutions managing spatial data and infrastructure, such as:

  • Geospatial Information Agency (BIG): Managing national fundamental and thematic mapping.
  • Ministry of ATR/BPN: Experts in cadastral (land) measurement and mapping.
  • Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR): Surveyors for the development of roads, bridges, and dams.
  • Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources & Ministry of Transportation: Experts in hydrographic surveying and navigation.

2. Mining, Oil, and Gas Industry

In the extractive sector, graduates play vital roles as:

  • Mine Surveyors: Managing mine-site mapping, cut-and-fill volume calculations, and land-deformation monitoring.
  • Offshore Surveyors: Supporting offshore oil and gas exploration through seafloor (bathymetric) mapping.

3. Construction & Engineering Sector

Graduates hold high-level competencies to join state-owned enterprises (BUMN) or private construction firms, such as:

  • Engineering Surveyors: Ensuring precise positioning for high-rise buildings, tunnels, and other strategic projects.
  • BIM (Building Information Modeling) Specialists: Integrating survey data into modern digital construction models.

4. Aerospace Technology & Digital Mapping

With mastery of UAV and LiDAR technology, graduates can work in tech companies as:

  • Drone Mapping Specialists: Experts in aerial image acquisition and processing for industrial needs.
  • GIS Analysts & Programmers: Developing spatial information systems and processing geospatial big data.

5. Consultancy & Entrepreneurship

  • Surveying & Mapping Consultants: Providing professional services for individuals and corporations.
  • Technopreneurs: Building startups in survey technology or providing innovative spatial data solutions.

6. Academia and Research

Graduates are also eligible to pursue advanced degrees (Master’s and Doctoral levels), both nationally and internationally. This academic pathway prepares them for esteemed careers as:

  • Lecturers and Academics: Shaping the next generation of geospatial professionals.
  • Researchers: Contributing to innovations in geodetic science, remote sensing, and mapping technology within research institutions.
