DREaM is an annual international student summer program held by Universitas Gadjah Mada. Each year, excellent students from around the globe gather in Yogyakarta to address and discuss salient global issues. DREaM will facilitate them with a wide range of activities, which consists of public lecture, short internship, tutorial, community service, and excursion. Through this program, UGM wants to prepare these students toward their path to be the global future leaders.
A brief history of DREaM
2009: This year was the initiation of the program. It emphasized the topics of disaster management, culture empowerment, and microeconomic and was participated by more than 30 UGM and international students.
2010: Interfaith dialogue was the main issue addressed by the participants of DREaM 2010. The program saw an increasing number of participants on this year. More than 70 students from universities spanning in 4 continents joined the program.
2011: DREaM 2011 brought and introduced the ideas of social entrepreneurship for 68 participants. It is in consonance with the mission of Universitas Gadjah Mada which is to contribute to the development of the society.
2012: This year is the fourth year implementation of DREaM. This year, UGM highlights the importance of alternative education. DREaM facilitates participants not only to learn about the ideas, but also to implement an alternative education project in local schools.
Through the years, DREaM has had the honor to welcome many prominent personalities. Past speakers include former Indonesian vice president, Mr. Jusuf Kalla; UNICEF Indonesia head representative, Ms. Angela Kearney; ASEAN Foundation executive director, Dr. Makarim Wibisono; ASHOKA International fellow Fred Hehuwat; Indonesian renowned businesswoman and philanthropist, Martha Tilaar; and Indonesian education activist for isolated tribe Butet Manurung.
