Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT Jasa Raharja have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration in the areas of education, research, and community service, with a particular focus on improving traffic safety and promoting compliance with motor vehicle obligations.
The agreement was signed by UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia and PT Jasa Raharja, President Director Rivan A. Purwantono, on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the UGM Main Building.
Professor Emilia welcomed the continuation of this partnership, which builds on a previous agreement that resulted in successful traffic safety campaigns.
“I believe this is something truly valuable and aligns with our mission. We aim to be a healthy campus, and safety campaigns are an essential component we need to implement,” she said.
She added that there are opportunities for broader collaboration in education, research, and human resource development.
“Through our Directorate of Research, we can send teams, staff, and students to assess and analyze Jasa Raharja’s needs,” she explained.
President Director Purwantono stated that the collaboration would extend beyond student-focused safety campaigns to reach a wider audience, including lecturers and educators.
He cited the example of Japan, where traffic fatalities dropped significantly from 16,965 in 1970 to 2,618 in 2024.
Jasa Raharja, he explained, is committed to reducing traffic accidents and fatalities in Indonesia by involving academic institutions.
He also expressed readiness to pursue future collaborations on new protection and safety initiatives.
“We want this program to go beyond students and reach the wider community,” he concluded.
