The Universitas Gadjah Mada Judo Student Activity Unit (UKM Judo UGM) earned two medals at the 2026 National Student Judo Championship, held in Karawang on August 8–9, 2026.
The championship brought together top judo athletes from universities across Indonesia and is considered one of the most prestigious national student judo competitions. The UGM contingent won one gold and one bronze medal in two different weight classes, demonstrating its competitiveness at the national level.
This achievement further strengthens UKM Judo UGM as a student judo development organization that supports high-achieving athletes.
Hagia Sofya Radityo, a student of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP UGM), won the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg class. She expressed her gratitude for the experience and reflected on the challenges of competing at the national level. Pressure and tension were an inseparable part of the competition, while the support of those around her provided an equally important source of strength.
“This has been the most enjoyable competition of the year. I felt a lot of tension and pressure, but the support from the UGM team, family, and friends was just as strong. Thank you, and hopefully we can perform even better at the next competition,” Hagia said on Monday (August 31).
The bronze medal went to Muhammad Kautsar Dharma Susetio, a student of the Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture UGM), who finished third in the men’s -100 kg class, completing UGM’s medal haul at the championship.
For Kautsar, the championship was a valuable experience and a source of motivation to continue improving.
“The National Student Judo Championship was a valuable experience. I got to meet many national-level athletes who are obviously far above my level, and I will use that as motivation to become better in the future,” he said.
The achievements of the two athletes reflect the structured training program and competitive spirit maintained within UKM Judo UGM. Beyond the competition results, their performance at the 2026 National Student Judo Championship shows UKM Judo UGM’s efforts to develop athletes who can compete at the national level while maintaining their academic commitments.
The achievement is expected to inspire UKM Judo UGM members to continue training diligently and improving their performance in future competitions, while encouraging more UGM students to develop their potential in competitive sports.
