International COnference Historical And CUltural Preesence Of Shias in Shouteast Asia Looking at Future Trajectories

The program will entail two main activities i.e. International Conference and Writing Competition.

Component A: International Conference

1. Panel Session 1: Dynamic Presence of the Shias in Nusantara
• Shia Roles in the Development of Islam in Indonesia
• Cultural and Religious Traditions of Shia in Maluku
• History of Shia in Aceh and Beyond
• Harmonious Living between Shias and Sunnis in Java
2. Panel Session 2: Dynamic Presence of the Shias in Southeast Asia
• Historical and Cultural Traditions of Shias in Singapore
• Cultural Influences of Shia Islam in Thailand
• Roots of Religious Conflict between Shia and Sunnis in Malaysia
• The Shias in the Philippines

Component 2: Writing Competition

This research-based Writing Competition consists of several steps of activities, namely: announcement of the competition, solicitation, verification, selection and announcement of the winners. The topic of the Writing Competition will go in line with the theme of the International Conference. Winners of the Writing Competition may be invited to contribute to the Edited Volume that will arise out of the International Conference. The Writing Competition will be organized from December 2012 to February 2013. The committee will invite students and scholars to participate in this Writing Competition.
