3rd Graduate Students Symposium on Communication 2025
Theme: Sustainability, Digital, Inclusive: Redefining Communication for a Changing World
The Graduate Students Symposium on Communication Science (GSSC) is an international platform that brings together graduate students and early-career researchers to explore how communication intersects with today’s global challenges. The symposium is organized by the Department of Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This year marks the third edition of the symposium, carrying the theme “Sustainable, Digital, Inclusive: Redefining Communication for a Changing World”. Theme highlights the important role of communication in addressing global challenges, including sustainable development, digital transformation and societal inclusivity.
GSSC 2025 aims to engage postgraduate students, early-career researchers, academics, media practitioners, activists, and policymakers with interests in communication, media studies, sustainability, and social inclusion.
Subtopics
We welcome submissions on the following subtopics, as well as other relevant topics aligned with the symposium’s main theme:
1. Communication for Sustainability
This topic includes communication strategies to mobilize public participation and drive behavioral change related to environmental and sustainability issues.
2. Media Representation and Social Equity
This topic addresses how media shapes the representation of diverse social groups and its impact on social equity.
3. Digital Literacy and Ethics
This topic explores responsible digital communication practices in an era of technological advancement and algorithmic media.
4. Strategic Communication for Social Change
This topic highlights communication as a tool for social transformation, particularly in empowering vulnerable groups and creating inclusive spaces.
5. Policy Advocacy in The Digital era
This topic examines the role of communication in the formulation and advocacy of public policy, especially in the context of digital transformation and sustainable development.
