Energy is the driving force for the human resources to perform activities of life and work, both in the form of heat or electricity. Indonesia’s energy consumption, according to the BPPT in “Indonesian Outlook Energy 2014″, an increase of 3.07% per year from 2000 to 2010, with the largest consumption of fuel by 31%, followed by the consumption of biomass such as firewood and charcoal by 28%, as well as gas and coal by 13%.
Of course this consumption should be followed by energy provision requiring the construction of expensive energy infrastructur. In Indonesia, consumption and energy source map was not in line. Most of the energy consumption in the island of Java, accord with the more dense a population, but not matched with adequate energy sources. Otherwise, in another island with a population of fewer, but have more energy sources.
Indonesian basically have a variety of energy resources in adequate amounts, ranging from the potential for oil, natural gas, coal, and renewable energy, such as hydro, solar, and biomass. For biomass resources, has a potential of 49.81 GW, but only used by 1.6 GW.
Indonesia has abundant biomass resources, such as grains, agricultural waste, organic waste, waste cooking oil, compost, and much more. If these sources of biomass can be used to turn it into fuel, power source, and the energy industry, the energy requirements of fuel oil will be reduced to 50% in Indonesia. Because as the biggest economic drivers, the industry dominated the national energy consumption even predicted consumption increasing from 39% in 2010 to 41% in 2015. Thus, required a comprehensive strategy and technology for the utilization of biomass as an energy source in the industry.
Therefore, this workshop will focus on the use of technology and best practice from existing biomass technology in Indonesia to increase the use of biomass as an energy source. The workshop will include a panel discussion was preceded by the presentation of a resource on renewable energy in the global era, the latest technology in the conversion of biomass, and biomass energy applications in the industry.
