Office of International Affairs (OIA) Universitas Gadjah Mada held an event entitled Garden Gathering for international students who are studying in UGM. The event was attended by dozens of international students who come from various countries, both those who take degree and non-degree programs in UGM. The event which was held on Friday (24/11) at UGM Museum Yard presented typical food and cultural performances from the participating countries.
There were at least five countries in presence at the Garden Gathering. Each country performed a cooking demo and introduced their typical food which could be tried by visitors. Japanese delegates presented Sushi Roll and Gyoza, Cambodia meat soup and dessert, Panama Arroz Con Pollo, and Uganda their typical food.
The Garden Gathering also presented various cultural performances, including Pakistani Dance by Rukhsar Asif, Kyrgyz song by Zhanyl Kyzy, musical instrument by Victor Nicolae Ciobanu, and so forth.
This event obtained high appreciation from the international students. Serina Miura, a Japanese student, said she was glad to attend this event. According to Serina, this event can gather all international students at UGM. The appreciation was also delivered by Re Pengleang, an international student from Cambodia.
“I hope this kind of event can be held in the following years,” said Serina.
The Head of Mobility Management Division, Office of International Affairs UGM, Agus Supriyanto, M.Sc., said Garden Gathering becomes one of the efforts of OIA UGM to directly hear the response of international students regarding the services provided by UGM.
“Through this event, Office of International Affairs UGM will know what should be improved in order to provide a better service,” said Agus.
