The UGM Vocational College (SV UGM), in collaboration with the UGM Innovation and Creativity Arena (GIK UGM), is organizing a vocational festival titled “Inovokasia 2024.”
This festival will take place over two weeks, from May 20 to June 1, 2024, at the UGM Vocational College campus.
The festival aims to showcase the innovative and creative works of vocational students to prepare them as skilled experts who are innovative and highly competitive on a global scale.
The Dean of SV UGM, Professor Agus Maryono, stated that this vocational festival encourages the nation’s future generation to become innovative, productive, collaborative, and solution-oriented individuals.
“The need for ready-to-absorb human resources by the industry is what SV UGM continuously prepares,” he said on Monday (May 20).
He hopes that through this event, SV UGM can serve as an example or beacon for other vocational schools to create young people who are strong in theory, excellent in practice, and capable of providing targeted solutions to every problem.
At the same event, Garin Nugroho, GIK’s Chief Program Officer, mentioned that vocational schools are crucial for Indonesia’s future as they produce young generations with practical skills needed by the job market.
“The challenge ahead is to enhance the skill capacity of Generation Z, who make up 60% of Indonesia, to ensure they have productivity levels that are not left behind compared to other ASEAN countries. One of the triggers for this comes from this year’s Inovokasia,” Nugroho explained.
Nugroho is optimistic that this year’s Inovokasia will serve as a preparation for national-level vocational collaboration in 2025.
“We will unite various national vocational institutions to strengthen the vocational ecosystem in Indonesia,” he said.
The two-week festival will feature exhibitions, competitions, workshops, talk shows, Master Classes, Talent Day, Movie Day, Sekip Walk, and musical performances integrating technology, ethics, and aesthetics.
Ajie Wartono, Head of Experience at GIK, revealed that Inovokasia 2024 involves many experts and practitioners from various fields to share their experiences with students.
The competitions are designed to identify outstanding applied science graduates who can compete in the industrial world.
“In one of the workshops, we will collaborate with Dagadu to share insights on product design innovation. Other topics related to soft skill enhancement, career development, and business development will also be covered,” Wartono concluded.
