The Rector of Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW), Professor Intiyas Utami, visited and discussed potential collaborations with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in the UGM Rector’s Office on Monday (May 20).
The UKSW delegation was received by the UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro.
In addition to exploring potential collaborations, UKSW aimed to invite UGM to participate and become a participant in the upcoming innovation exhibition. They also hoped that the UGM Rector would be one of the speakers on innovation and sustainability.
Professor Utami confirmed her visit with other UKSW leaders to invite and ensure UGM’s participation in the Harmoni Nusantara Innovation Exhibition, which will be held at the UKSW campus from June 25 to 27, 2024.
She mentioned that the innovation exhibition, which will involve universities across Indonesia, would be inaugurated by the President of Indonesia, Jokowi.
“We also invite the Rector of UGM to be one of the speakers on innovation. We have been informed that several universities have already confirmed their participation in the innovation exhibition and as speakers. We are providing 100 innovation stands for universities across Indonesia,” Professor Utami said.
She mentioned that although UKSW and UGM have not formalized their collaboration, they have been working in various fields, including joint research in archaeology and human civilization.
In archaeology, UKSW and the UGM Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB UGM) have collaborated for a long time, even without a formal agreement.
She also mentioned that in 2025, UKSW will host a world-level archaeology conference supported by the World Archaeology Association in collaboration with UGM and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
The Faculty of Agriculture at UKSW also receives support from the UGM Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture UGM), and several collaborations have been established for the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.
“Activities are already taking place, although not yet formalized in an agreement. This includes faculty exchanges, especially in cross-cultural studies. Thank you for accepting three UKSW doctors to continue their studies in Biomedical Sciences at the UGM Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK UGM),” Professor Utami said.
Vice-Rector Udasmoro welcomed UKSW’s visit and expressed gratitude for the partnership offered to UGM by UKSW. UGM will coordinate with various directorates to prepare for this collaboration.
The vice-rector mentioned that UGM is open to all UKSW teaching staff pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees. UGM provides extensive opportunities for UKSW to collaborate with UGM’s faculties, programs, and study centers in actual activities formalized in Cooperation Agreements.
“We gladly accept the invitation for the innovation exhibition and will prepare with UGM’s Directorate of Student Affairs and related units. We can certainly collaborate for the MBKM student exchange,” she explained.
The UKSW delegation included Professor Ferdy S. Rondonuwu, Vice-Rector for Teaching, Academics, and Student Affairs; Professor Eko Sediyono, Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship; and Dr. Ferry F. Karwur, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Also present were Dr. Bistok Hasiholan Simanjuntak, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Business; Dr. Linda Ariany Mahastanti, the Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship; and Novasari Linda Jeany, Secretary of Leadership.
From UGM, the meeting was attended by Professor Puji Astuti, Director of Partnerships and Global Relations; Dr. Johan Syafri Mahathir Ahmad, Head of the Domestic Cooperation Sub-directorate; and Dr. Haryani, Head of the Undergraduate Program of the Nursing Science Program at FK-KMK UGM.
