Thirty-two thousand four hundred fourteen participants are taking the UGM Entrance Exam (UM UGM CBT) in Yogyakarta.
Among the tens of thousands of participants, 25,203 chose the science and technology group, 15,349 chose the social sciences and humanities group, and 1,412 chose the mixed group.
They are spread across 23 locations in 100 rooms on the UGM campus, involving 71 location coordinators, 39 deputy location coordinators, 698 room supervisors, and 453 invigilators.
With 23 locations and utilizing 100 rooms, an average of 3,000 participants can take the UM UGM CBT each day in each session. The test in Yogyakarta is scheduled over seven days, from Tuesday to Thursday, Jun 11–13, 2024, with two sessions for the science and technology and social sciences and humanities groups.
Only one session will be held for the mixed group on Friday, June 14, 2024. The exam will continue from July 2–4, 2024, and will be divided into two sessions per day for both groups.
The Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro, stated that 41,973 participants are taking the 2024 UM UGM CBT overall.
Of this number, 32,414 are taking the exam in Yogyakarta, and 9,559 others are taking the exam in six other cities in Indonesia: Jakarta, Kupang, Balikpapan, Medan, Pekanbaru, and Makassar.
“The test in Yogyakarta is centralized on the UGM campus. We hope everything runs smoothly,” she said on Tuesday (Jun 11).
Professor Udasmoro explained that the committee is implementing strict supervision and security measures during the exam to prevent potential cheating.
Participants are not allowed to bring logarithm tables, calculators, books, notes, or communication devices such as mobile phones, watches, cameras, speakers, modems, recording devices, or other electronic devices.
“The committee checks participants entering with metal detectors and thoroughly verifies their identities and other required documents to ensure the security and validity of participants. We also inform them of other prohibitions that must be followed,” she explained.
Professor Udasmoro added that several cities have already held the UM UGM CBT. The cities include Kupang, which held it on May 28, 2024, with 76 participants; Balikpapan, which held it on May 29–30, 2024, with 438 participants; Medan, which held it on May 30–Jun 1, 2024, with 1,215 participants; and Pekanbaru, which held it on May 30–Jun 1, 2024, with 1,153 participants.
The UM UGM CBT in Makassar is being held simultaneously with the exam in Yogyakarta. The exam in Makassar involves 472 participants, 400 of whom will take part in two sessions for both groups on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, and 72 participants will take part in one session for both groups on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
In Jakarta, the UGM test will be taken by 6,205 participants, with 620 participants in each session. The exam will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, with two sessions for both groups.
It will continue on Monday, July 1, 2024, with two sessions for both groups; Tuesday, July 2, 2024, with two sessions for both groups, Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with two sessions for both groups; and Thursday, July 4, 2024, with one session for both groups.
According to the vice-rector, the exams outside Yogyakarta aim to facilitate prospective students across the country’s taking of the UM UGM CBT. She stated that UGM wants to reach prospective students throughout Indonesia.
“We strive to ensure that students can take the UGM entrance exam without being hindered by distance. This is UGM’s effort to make itself accessible to everyone,” she said.
She added that, besides geographic proximity, holding exams in various regions reflects UGM’s openness, providing all citizens with the broadest possible access to education.
