Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (PT IMIP) have agreed to extend their collaboration to enhance the quality of human resources.
This agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony on Thursday (Jun. 6) at the UGM Central Office by the UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro, and PT IMIP’s HR Director, Achmanto Mendatu.
This partnership opens numerous opportunities for students and alumni to gain job opportunities and pursue higher education. PT IMIP offers three main programs: scholarships for UGM Faculty of Engineering students, internship programs, and recruitment for UGM graduates aiming for a career at PT IMIP.
Professor Udasmoro warmly welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to develop talents in the mineral and metal sectors. She noted that Indonesia is strategically positioned due to its abundant natural resources.
The nation needs high-quality human resources to transform its economy through minerals and metal downstream, directing these skilled individuals to work for companies like PT IMIP.
“We greatly appreciate the opportunities provided by PT IMIP. We hope the internship program is available for students, young lecturers, or senior lecturers who need a refresher in their knowledge of the latest technology,” said Professor Udasmoro.
Achmanto Mendatu stated that PT IMIP already employs 110-120 UGM alumni and hopes to increase this number in the coming years, as job opportunities in the mineral and metal downstream sectors are still widely available.
“For this human resources enhancement program, we are also collaborating with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs because minerals and metals are the nation’s future that must be seriously managed,” explained Mendatu.
He mentioned that a Lecture Series was held the previous Tuesday (Jun. 4) to support campus hiring, internships, and scholarships. During the event, PT IMIP shared its optimism about the future of Indonesia’s mineral and metal downstream with the participants.
Throughout 2024, PT IMIP has been offering 200 scholarship slots for engineering students and 500 internship slots prioritized for applied undergraduate and undergraduate students in 17 positions provided by the company. The signing of the 2024 MoU extends the collaboration in place since 2019.
