The Tennis Association of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) hosted a friendly tennis match with PT Pertamina Refinery Unit (RU) IV Cilacap on Saturday (Jun. 15) at the GOR Premium Komperta Pertamina in Cilacap, Central Java.
The one-day event saw UGM bringing approximately 30 players while Pertamina RU-IV Cilacap fielded about 22.
Professor Kuncoro H. Widodo, chair of the UGM Tennis Association, organized the friendly match, titled “Synergy of Professionals and Academics for the Sustainability of National Energy,” to strengthen the relationship between the two parties.
The two parties have previously collaborated in education, research, and community service. This time, the collaboration was celebrated through a friendly competition.
“We are grateful that the UGM Tennis team could visit Pertamina RU-IV Cilacap for this tennis match, which I believe is an excellent way to continue our relationship. I hope it benefits both parties regarding their internal development,” said Professor Widodo.
For both parties, the friendly match provided an opportunity to assess the development of employees in the sport of tennis.
According to the professor of agricultural technology, such sports events are also crucial for motivating employees to maintain health and achieve excellence in sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise in line with their interests and talents.
“This aligns with UGM’s mission as a Health Promoting University (HPU). I think this is a very tangible implementation of HPU,” Professor Widodo added.
Paulus Djari, Area Manager and Legal Counsel of Pertamina RU-IV, expressed his appreciation for the friendly match between UGM and Pertamina RU-IV.
“We at Pertamina are very proud to have had the opportunity to host this friendly match,” he said.
Djari mentioned that the tennis match provided health benefits and strengthened the ongoing cooperation between the two parties.
“I hope this friendship continues beyond this event and remains sustainable,” he hoped.
The friendly match was symbolically opened with a souvenir exchange between Professor Widodo and Paulus Djari, witnessed by the Secretary of the UGM Tennis Association, Dr. Asikin Nur, and the Chair of the Pertamina RU IV Sports Board, Ahmad Rifqi Anda.
The tennis event featured 20 matches, consisting of 18 men’s doubles and two women’s doubles. The final score was 13-7, with UGM winning 13 games and Pertamina RU-IV Cilacap winning the remaining seven matches.
