The UGM Library and Archives organized a healthy walk on Friday (Jun. 28) to celebrate the first anniversary of its founding. Dozens of library staff and archivists participated in the walk.
The route started from the UGM Library and Archives, passed around the Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP), proceeded to the alumni office, then to the Directorate of Community Service, and finally returned north to the UGM Library and Archives.
Before releasing the participants for the walk, Arif Suratman, the Head of the Library, stated that the healthy walk is part of the Health Promoting University initiative in collaboration with the Integrated Health Bureau.
He added that the Academic Hospital (RSA UGM) and Gadjah Mada Medical Center (GMC UGM) support it.
“The library can become a community health center for the Universitas Gadjah Mada community, always supporting UGM’s vision and mission,” Suratman said in a statement sent to reporters on Tuesday, Jul. 2, 2024.
Suratman explained that the UGM Library and Archives are vital in preserving and disseminating knowledge and cultural heritage for the community.
However, as times change, libraries and archives must continually adapt and evolve to remain relevant and provide the best services to users.
“Since its establishment, UGM Library and Archives have been dedicated to becoming a center of knowledge and culture, preserving intellectual heritage and facilitating access to information for the broader community,” he said.
The UGM Library and Archives strive to be a reliable partner for all who need intellectual and cultural resources through its rich and diverse collections, innovative services, and ongoing literacy programs.
He mentioned that this first-anniversary celebration marks one year since the merger of UGM Library and UGM Archives into a single unit on Jul. 1, 2023. UGM Library was established 73 years ago, while UGM Archives has been around for 20 years.
The series of activities for the 1st Anniversary of UGM Library and Archives included a Workshop Series and Database, an Innovation in Service Excellence Competition, a Healthy Walk, and Posbindu PTM (Integrated Post for Non-Communicable Disease Counseling).
There are also Health Promoting University, National Seminar, and Library and Archives exhibition.
